Been wondering what to expect from Grand Theft Auto VI? While we don’t have any direct news regarding the game at this point, some recent comments from Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (which owns both Rockstar Games and 2K) indicate that from a graphical standpoint, we may have a lot to look forward to whenever Rockstar does get around to putting out GTA VI.
What Strauss Zelnick of Take-Two Interactive Said About Graphics
Zelnick was talking to Jim Cramer of CNBC. During the interview, he said, “We have a new console generation coming, and that’s going to allow us to do some things that we haven’t been able to do before creatively, and that’s exciting. But as I’ve said before, we are going to reach a point where you won’t be able to tell the difference between what’s created in the computer and what’s real.”
So will the world of Grand Theft Auto VI look indistinguishable from the real world? It seems possible. There have already been some pretty stunning mods for GTA V as it is. So we have little doubt that GTA VI will look astonishing, whether it actually ends up looking photorealistic or not.
If anything might hold the game back from looking completely realistic, it is likely just how much data will need to load as players explore the vast open world. But with next gen console manufacturers putting a strong focus on frame rate and playability, who knows. Sports games, on the other hand, probably stand the most to gain from the photorealistic graphics Take-Two is working on (i.e. the NBA 2K series).
How long will we have to wait before we see Grand Theft Auto VI? A few weeks ago, analyst Alex Giaimo said that Take-Two “is now in a ‘soft spot’ when considering the timing of the next release.” In other words, we should not expect the game to release anytime in the near future. Of course, that is just the opinion of a single analyst. It may or may not mean anything concrete.
We know nothing official about the details of the story, settings and characters for Grand Theft Auto VI, but the most recent rumors point toward the game taking place in more than one city while spanning a timeframe of decades.
