Everyone knows Tetris; It’s one of the very few games that have truly become timeless classics. In fact, the game is still widely recognized among a lot of players. Of course, people have loved when new ways of playing Tetris add more spice to the game. As such, Nintendo adds the Battle Royale aspect that makes games like Apex Legends so popular and applies it to Tetris; bringing Tetris 99.
Tetris 99: Tetris Battle Royale for Nintendo Switch Online users
As part of their push to make Nintendo Switch Online more attractive to subscribers; Nintendo announced the release of Tetris 99. In the game, 100 players (99 excluding the player) will attempt to crown themselves as the last man standing. As the name shows, 99 players will be defeated and only one will be the champion.
Of course, the game also runs under the same rules as Tetris. Players are tasked with placing tetriminos in a strategic manner to clear lines. In addition, clearing lines will automatically give your opponents “Garbage lines” for your opponents to clear.
The point of the game is to rack up KO’s as soon as possible. KO’s are achieved when the garbage blocks are the ones that manage to fill the opponent’s screen; leading to a Game Over. KO’s are important because they can actually increase how much garbage a player can send to their opponents.
This creates a chaotic environment where strategic play is key. The more KO’s the player racks up the bigger targets they become. Additionally, players will have to become more aware of their surroundings and be on the lookout for players who are close to a KO. Tetris 99 certainly brings the Battle Royale into a timeless classic.
