The Tetris Effect release date has been revealed for this November by publisher Enhance. PS4 users will be able to strap in and enjoy this virtual reality experience (also available without VR) when it releases on Friday, November 9, 2018. The announcement of the game’s release date was made on the official Enhance Twitter account earlier today.
Tetris Effect has been in development since 2012 and is built around the “effect” of playing Tetris for too long where the player begins to see the shapes still falling in their vision even after walking away from the game. This is built directly into the puzzle game, allowing players to play it with or without PlayStation VR on PS4.
The core Tetris experience exists in Tetris Effect but with trippy visuals and the gameplay tied directly into the music on each level. This certainly makes sense given that the title is coming from the creators of the renowned musical puzzle games Rez and Lumines, the latter of which recently saw a re-release on all current consoles as well as PC.
One of the key features that is in Tetris Effect is the “zone” mechanic. This ability allows the user to place more several puzzle blocks at the same time, enabling the player to clear out more than 16 lines all at once, similar to V-Tetris on the ill-fated Virtual Boy. The upcoming title will also incorporate a leveling system that unlocks new challenges as the player levels up throughout the game.
Players can get their hands on Tetris Effect when it finally releases on Friday, November 9, 2018. The game will be fully compatible with the PlayStation VR headset. However, you don’t need VR in order to enjoy this puzzle title as it will also be playable on PS4 without VR. While we wait for it to release, check out some other puzzle games like Forgotton Anne and Donut County.
