The Director’s Cut, the second of Borderlands 3’s second season of DLC expansions, is now available for purchase. The expansion follows on from the Designer’s Cut, introducing a whole host of new content. Where it differs from the last expansion, however, is that the Director’s Cut does add new story content.
The Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut DLC
“Starting today,” writes Gearbox; “new challenges await you with the Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut add-in. A colossal Varkid raid boss named Hemovorous the Invincible located on Pandora is in need of a butt-kicking. Ava could use your help solving an interplanetary murder mystery […].”
Unlike the first four expansions for Borderlands 3, the Director’s Cut doesn’t feature a single major story expansion. Rather, it adds a broad range of new content to the game as a whole, akin to the Designer’s Cut DLC. For example, the expansion adds the new Vault Card system, which will allow players to unlock new cosmetics and gear. The first of three Vault Cards is now available to complete, with the remaining two to come later this year.
Unlike Designer’s Cut, there is some actual story content included in Director’s Cut; Ava’s new murder mystery storyline. This quest chain spans all of the game’s original planets, including Nekrotafeyo. Hemovorous is also a significant new addition as an endgame raid boss. However, it’s not part of any story missions. Rather, players can challenge Hemovorous on Pandora simply by paying 500 Eridium to unlock the door it lairs behind.
Included with the Director’s Cut DLC are behind-the-scenes assets and content. These include concept art, storyboards, bloopers, and cut content. None of this content is implemented into the game itself, but rather is available to view separately. At present, it’s unknown whether Gearbox has any plans for further Borderlands 3 DLC. The Director’s Cut is the final of the two announced expansions in Season 2.
