The Division 2’s recent 1.04 update introduced a welcome new feature in the form of named gear sets. Much like in the original Division, these unique equipment sets grant stacking perks for each piece that’s equipped. Three such gear sets were added in with the 1.04 update: True Patriot, Ongoing Directive, and Hard Wired. In this guide, we’ll explain how to find pieces for all three sets so you can efficiently complete them.
How To Find The Division 2’s Gear Sets
It’s easy to tell when you get a gear set item since it has a unique green rarity color. Gear sets are similar to brand-specific high-end equipment in that they grant special set-specific perks. However, unlike branded high-end equipment, gear set perks stack and are wholly unique to those specific sets.
Ongoing Directive and True Patriot
Depending on how lucky you are, the Ongoing Directive and True Patriot gear sets are the easiest to find. Pieces from both sets can randomly drop from Black Tusk elite and named boss enemies in World Tier 5. As long as you’re fighting Black Tusk, gear set pieces can drop in virtually any activity.
Even better, Invaded Missions and Strongholds drop a guaranteed gear set piece upon completion. Which missions and strongholds are Invaded changes based on a weekly reset, but they always drop gear set pieces. As long as you don’t mind grinding Black Tusk activities a bit, these two gear sets aren’t a huge hassle.
Hard Wired
The process of getting the Hard Wired gear set is a bit different than the other two. When you reach World Tier 5, you’ll actually get a Project for the Hard Wired gear set blueprints. Each of the six components outlined in the Project drops from the final boss of a specific non-Invaded mission. Reports suggest you can just play the missions on Normal difficulty to make the grinding a little easier. The six missions in question are as follows:
- Grand Washington Hotel
- Federal Emergency Bunker
- Jefferson Trade Center
- Air and Space Museum
- Lincoln Memorial
- Bank Headquarters
The components are sadly not guaranteed drops, hence why you should play on Normal difficulty. With all the components in hand you’ll then need to gather 30 Hard Wired Materials. The best way to do this is to clear Landmarks in an Occupied Dark Zone. Once you have the Hard Wired Materials and components, make sure you donate them to the Project.
The next step involves actually crafting the Hard Wired gear set using the blueprints. This means you’ll have to complete the above six missions *again* for a new set of components. You’ll also need plenty more Hard Wired Materials along with standard crafting components. The silver lining is that, unlike the True Patriot and Ongoing Directive sets, you’re not relying on random drops.
