There are a deceptively large number of active skills to unlock in The Division 2. Each of the eight core skills also has a number of additional variants which alter the skill’s functionality. Between all these skills and variants, newer players might struggle to find the best skills for their playstyle. Fortunately, the below skills are universally solid picks no matter your preferred playstyle or combat tactics.
The Division 2 Ideal Beginner Skill Unlocks
Since you can equip two active skills at once, it’s usually best to go with an offensive and defensive/utility skill. Equipping two attack-based skills can be tempting, especially during the early game when enemies are weak. However, if your skills are on cooldown and your enemy gets the jump on you, you’ll be virtually helpless.
If you’re filling a dedicated role in a group, though, taking multiple skills of the same type is ideal. By consulting the below entries, you’ll know best where to start your skill allocations based on your personal situation.
Assault Turret or Striker Drone
Both the Assault Turret and Striker Drone are good baseline attack skills, especially for solo players. Which one you pick depends on how you prefer to approach combat encounters. If you enjoy sniping or suppressing enemies from a stationary position, go with the Assault Turret. More mobile players who prefer to move around and flank their foes should pick the Striker Drone.
Healing Chem Launcher
The default version of the Chem Launcher skill is a healing variant that’s handy in both solo and group play. When you’re solo, you can tap the skill deploy button to drop a healing field that partially restores your health/armor. In a group, you can hold the button to aim and fire the launcher, allowing you to heal distant teammates. A single Chem Launcher use often won’t fully restore your armor, but it can preserve your armor kits during combat.
Reviver Hive
If you can sacrifice an attack skill, pairing the Reviver Hive with the Healing Chem Launcher is an excellent strategy. This is one of the quintessential solo player combos as it gives you added survivability and a self-revive opportunity. Of course, the Reviver Hive is also a solid group-based skill. When you’re in the middle of a tough battle, instantly reviving a downed teammate can make a huge difference.
Seeker Mine
As you approach The Division 2’s endgame you should consider switching your attack skill over to the Seeker Mine. The Seeker Mine obviously doesn’t have the same sustainability as the Assault Turret or Striker Drone, a noticeable drawback. However, it makes up for its sustained presence with high (and virtually guaranteed) damage output. Also, depending on its specific variant, the Seeker Mine can absolutely devastate groups of enemies or a single armored foe.
