The Division 2: Ubisoft Nixes Plans To Introduce 515 Gear

Last month, Ubisoft announced it would soon be bumping up The Division 2’s maximum gear score from 500 to 515. However, that announcement was met with an overwhelming amount of pushback from fans. Now, Ubisoft has confirmed it won’t be moving ahead with the introduction of 515 gear in response to fan feedback.

The Division 2 515 Gear Plans Cancelled

The Division 2’s playerbase was unhappy about the prospect of 515 gear for several reasons. For one, said gear was originally only going to drop in the PvPvE Dark Zone activity. Fans saw this as Ubisoft trying to force players into the Dark Zone, and the restriction was quickly nixed. Other fans were understandably worried it would immediately invalidate the 500 gear score equipment builds they had meticulously constructed.

According to this post on The Division 2’s website, Ubisoft is now taking a different approach with Title Update 3. Instead of just upping the game’s maximum gear score, the studio is making efforts to support max-gear score players. Players who have reached 500 gear score will receive guaranteed 500 score item drops via the following methods:

  • Daily hard and challenging missions
  • Contaminated Dark Zone loot
  • Supply room containers from alert level 4 Control Points
  • Bounty bosses, Stronghold bosses, and heroic mission bosses

Along with the above changes, Ubisoft also plans on rebalancing loot drop odds for all players regardless of their gear score. The Division 2’s Title Update 3 will lessen a player’s odds of finding loot that’s below their current gear score.

Title Update 3 is currently being tested on The Division 2’s public test server. A release date for the upcoming title update hasn’t been confirmed as of this writing. However, it should arrive sometime in May. Title Update 3’s major highlight is the Operation Dark Hours Raid, The Division 2’s first proper raid experience. Operation Dark Hours will also drop guaranteed 500 gear score loot, including a brand new Exotic weapon.
