The Newest Battlefield Game Is Being Revealed This Month

There’s a new Battlefield game coming, and we might be learning about it a lot earlier than we originally thought. Thanks to the efforts of some determined fans who took it upon themselves to unlock a year-old secret in Battlefield 1, a special Easter egg hunt culminated in a teaser that’s brought us to what looks like the newest Battlefield game reveal, which is slated for May 23.

Battlefield 1 players had been interacting with and puzzling over a blocked door in the basement on the Fort Vaux map, which was originally released in March 2017 with the They Shall Not Pass expansion. They finally ended up solving the puzzle, which you can see in the following video, by flipping switches in a specific order to unlock the door. The unlock code spelled out the world “isolement,” which is French for “isolation.”

Once in the room, there wasn’t a whole lot to find, at least objectively. There was a slashed up horse painting, with plenty of smudging. But more interestingly, there was a leaking pipe in the ceiling. It had a rhythmic drip-drop noise emanating from it, which ended up spelling out a URL in Morse code: ea.com/neverbethesame.

You can head to that page, and you’ll be given a special date: May 28, and the hashtag #Battlefield. Unfortunately, we don’t know what kind of game is being revealed — if it’s a sequel, if it’s another numbered entry, a spinoff or what. The horse painting and the “never be the same” statement on the website gives us a bit of a horrific vibe. Is it time for Battlefield to go down a similar route as Call of Duty and delve into the supernatural or the terrifying?

Let us know what direction you think Battlefield is about to head in, and we’ll see you right back here on May 23, when we’ve got a little more information about what’s going on. You’ve gotta love Easter eggs and cool puzzles like these.
