Fans of the lore behind Respawn’s Apex Legends got a treat today when the studio released a brand-new episode of Stories From the Outlands; their cinematic series which delves into the stories of their individual Legend characters. This episode, entitled “The Old Ways,” is over 10-minutes long and features Bloodhound’s youth and coming-of-age. As expected, the video’s release also coincides with an all-new in-game event themed around the character.
The Story of Bloodhound in Apex Legends
Thus far, Respawn has only released episodes of Stories From the Outlands for two reasons; either to give fans a look at an upcoming new Legend, or in the case of “Voidwalker,” to give a longer-form look at an existing character’s backstory and promote a new in-game event. The Old Ways falls into the latter category, and is only the second such episode released so far. While Voidwalker promoted an in-game Town Takeover for Wraith and a Collection Event, The Old Ways is a little different.
While it does feature a new Bloodhound Town Takeover, The Old Ways is Apex Legends’ first-ever “Lore Event”; a new kind of event altogether. This event will start on the 7th of April and will be live for two weeks, ending on the 21st. In addition to the event, Respawn will be making a major change to Apex Legends on the 7th; on that date, Duos will be added to the game permanently, alongside a permanent map rotation. This will allow players to play on both the Kings Canyon and World’s Edge maps.
The Old Ways event itself will offer players an exclusive prize track, like those which appeared in Grand Soiree and System Override. Players will be able to earn up to 1,000 points per challenge set, with challenges refreshing every day. Exclusive skins will also be available in the direct purchase shop during the event. These include new Legendary skins inspired by The Old Ways cinematic, such as Bloodhound’s Young Blood skin.
From the 7th – 11th, the Young Blood and Wise Warrior skin will be available for Wraith, alongside the Havoc “Redemption” skin and Wattson’s “Static Maiden” skin. On the 12th, everything aside from Young Blood will be replaced. Players will, at that point, be able to purchase the “Safety First” Charge Rifle and “Raven’s Watch” Prowler skins, alongside Crypto’s “Azure Gaze” skin. Finally, on the 17th, the last three items will become available, with Young Blood remaining in the store. These are the “Norse Code” Mozambique skin, “Copperhead” EVA-8 skin, and the “Exploration” Bloodhound Frame.
