Since the launch of Apex Legends, Kings Canyon has changed significantly from its original layout. Areas have been changed, removed, or replaced over the course of many different seasons. Now however, for the first time, the original version of the map from before the launch of Season 1 will be returning for a limited window.
The Return of the OG Apex Legends Kings Canyon Map
The return of the classic Apex Legends Kings Canyon map is the headline feature of this week’s Genesis Collection Event. From the 29th of June to the 13th of July, the original, untouched version of Kings Canyon will be available to play as part of a Legacy Maps Apex Takeover. This Takeover doesn’t simply stop with Kings Canyon, however.
The Takeover also features the return of World’s Edge, as it was when it was first introduced in Season 3. Like Kings Canyon, the changes which have been wrought upon it in later seasons will all have been temporarily rolled back, returning it to its original state. Both of these maps will be taking over the Duos and Trios queues in the Play Apex playlist for the duration of the Genesis event. They will switch back and forth on a 1-hour rotation.
Also coming in Genesis is a new map for the Apex Legends Arenas mode. Like the others, this map is also one which harks back to the game’s classic, original map design. “Five minutes after we announced Arenas,” writes Respawn; “we were seeing pleas for a Skull Town Arena. Well, here it is! This original Apex hotzone has seen a lot of combat through the years, but this is the first time we can say it hosts a fair fight.”
Like the other two, the Skull Town Arenas map will be available for one-hour increments during the Genesis Collection Event. It’s currently unknown whether it will be a limited-time feature or a permanent addition to the Arenas map lineup.
