While PC gamers can already start prepping for the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake thanks to the recently revealed PC system requirements, Nintendo Switch owners will have a bit of a longer wait ahead of them if they too hope to one day play the highly anticipated remake, a wait which sadly might turn out to be an indefinite one.
Currently, Capcom plans to release the Resident Evil 2 remake for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. When he was asked by GamingBolt (via IGN) about the possibility of a Switch version, the company’s brand manager Mike Lunn said that the plan is to focus on those initial three platforms for the time being, though his specific wording did leave a little interpretive wiggle room.
GamingBolt had good reason to be curious about a potential Switch version of the Resident Evil 2 remake since several past Resident Evil titles have already made their way to Nintendo’s newest console, including the most current title in the franchise, Resident Evil 7. Of course, simply saying that Resident Evil 7 was released for the Switch would be a little misleading since, as of this writing, it’s currently only available for the Switch in Japan, and only in a “cloud version” which involves streaming the game using an internet connection.
There’s no denying that the Resident Evil 2 remake is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2019, so it follows reason that plenty of Nintendo Switch owners are hoping for a Switch port of the game. Capcom may not have any plans for a switch port at the moment, but if the remake ends up being as big a hit as many fans are expecting it to be, then those plans could easily change.
The Resident Evil 2 remake will launch on January 25, 2019.
