If you have tried to purchase the PS4 version of The Sinking City recently, you will have discovered it is no longer available. Not only that, but you also cannot buy it at the Epic Games Store or on Steam. Wondering why The Sinking City is now unavailable for PS4? It turns out there is a thorough explanation. Let’s take a look.
Why The Sinking City is Now Unavailable for PS4
Developer Frogwares provided an explanation for why it is no longer possible to purchase The Sinking City for PS4. Frogwares stated, “As some of you have noticed, The Sinking City has been taken down from Steam and many other notable stores. We have received multiple emails and messages on this issue. The reason is a bit complicated, yet at the same time, quite simple. Short version: We were forced to terminate the contract with our licensee for several breaches of our agreement. We urge you to read this open letter to our fans, journalists, and people of the industry, to understand why this is happening and how you can still get The Sinking City.”
You can read the full, detailed letter about the situation in the tweet below:
The long and short of it involves issues with late or missing payments from BigBen Interactive/Nacon. Apparently the contested amount adds up to around €1 million. So, while it is frustrating that the game is unavailable right now, we cannot imagine how frustrated Frogwares is.
In fact, this is not the first time that we have reported on The Sinking City having availability issues. We also posted about it last year. Now at least we know what has been going on.
Don’t forget that even though you cannot purchase the game through any of the stores just mentioned, it is still possible to get a copy through other retailers. For updates on other PS4 games, please see our PlayStation news.
