The Surge 2 Launches On September 24, Pre-Order Bonus Detailed

This article has been updated to reflect the recently announced release date. Original story follows.

Original Story:

As of this writing, neither Focus Home Interactive nor Deck13 have confirmed a release date for The Surge 2. However, that hasn’t stopped several retailers from posting a release date on their respective web pages. If what the retailers posted is to be believed, The Surge 2 will arrive in just a few months on September 24.

The Surge 2 Leaked Release Date

The Surge 2 release date

The Surge 2’s September release date specifically showed up on the Microsoft Store. At first, the updated listing was only appearing on the Microsoft Store’s Australian site. However, other regions including the United Kingdom and United States have since been updated with the release date as well. Our guess is that Focus Home Interactive was planning an E3 reveal, and someone at Microsoft jumped the gun.

Pre-Order Bonus Pack

Either way, if you were planning on pre-ordering The Surge 2 for Xbox One, you can now do so. The sequel’s Microsoft Store page also details the sequel’s pre-order bonus. All pre-orders for The Surge 2 include the exclusive ‘URBN Gear Pack’ DLC. The URBN Gear Pack unlocks access to the following in-game items and bonuses:

  • The iconic Cutter weapon utilized by The Surge protagonist Warren
  • An URBN Judgment Axe weapon
  • A unique URBN full-body armor set
  • An URBN Skimmer Drone equipped with a Lootscan.exe radar module
  • A unique online message icon

That last item, the unique online message icon, is worth noting. As fans may recall, The Surge was a strictly single-player experience with no online multiplayer functionality of any kind. The presence of an online message icon suggests Deck13 is broadening the sequel’s horizons. The presence of online multiplayer would also make sense considering how The Surge 2 is deviating from its predecessor. Rather than play as a fixed protagonist, The Surge 2 will allow players to create their own custom avatars.

To be clear, we have no confirmation that The Surge 2 will have online multiplayer. Still, if it does, such a system could help give the sequel some longevity. Indeed, online multiplayer is one of the main reasons why From Software’s Dark Souls series remains so popular. The Surge series takes plenty of cues from Dark Souls, so integrating multiplayer makes perfect sense.

Unless Focus Home Interactive pulls a fast one, fan can expect to play The Surge 2 on September 24. You can read more about The Surge 2 here.
