It was revealed just recently at PAX West 2018 that, unfortunately, The World Ends With You: Final Mix won’t have Pro Controller support on Nintendo Switch when it releases in just over a month. Nintendo has officially confirmed through an official representative to USGamer that you won’t be able to use the Pro Controller for the upcoming underrated Square Enix JRPG.
This is due to the fact that The World Ends With You: Final Mix was built with a unique control scheme in mind. Being originally a DS title before coming to mobile devices later, the control scheme for it is unlike any other game, to say the least. Instead of allowing for traditional controls using the Pro Controller, it will have two possible gameplay methods.
The first control method for The World Ends With You: Final Mix is using the touchscreen while the Nintendo Switch is undocked while the other one is using the Joy-Con. This also allows for someone else to jump in and play with you in local co-op at any time. The local cooperative partner takes control of Neku’s partner while you control him.
While the lack of Pro Controller support in The World Ends With You: Final Mix isn’t totally surprising, it is unfortunate that Square Enix didn’t implement a more traditional way of controlling the game given that it was able to modify the previously two screen-centric gameplay for mobile devices.
Regardless, The World Ends With You: Final Mix is a unique JRPG that you shouldn’t miss out on when it releases on Nintendo Switch exclusively next month with a brand new scenario that wasn’t featured on DS and mobile. It will release at just under full retail price for $49.99 both physically and digitally. Stay tuned for more information as we near its release date of October 12, 2018.
