As the year continues, and more time passes without Activision officially announcing the upcoming Call of Duty 2020 title, more and more fan theories and rumours begin to circulate online. While previous leaks and rumours have suggested that the game will have a Cold War setting, a new theory has emerged which claims that the game could feature the assassination of JFK.
The Latest Call of Duty 2020 Fan Theory
Of course, the existence of Call of Duty 2020 has been widely leaked, and Activision has said that they will be launching another Call of Duty game this year. However, Activision still has yet to actually announce the upcoming title. As such, there is little concrete evidence around about its story or content. While the game’s development has been extremely leaky (just like Modern Warfare and Warzone), very little info is concrete. As such, all online rumours and purported leaks should be taken with a grain of salt.
This latest theory comes from well-known Call of Duty leaker TheGamingRevolution on Twitter, who recently shared information about a book called Counsel of Zeus. This real-world book is a historical fiction novel imagining a world where President Kennedy wasn’t assassinated. It should be noted at this point that the current internal codename for Call of Duty 2020 is “Project Zeus”. While, of course, this could be a coincidence, there is more to the theory.
As the Tweet notes; “When you translate the Ascension code it details the Kennedy assassination hinting that Mason killed him”. Credible rumours suggest that the upcoming Call of Duty 2020 will have a Cold War setting, of course. Moreover, rumours also suggest that it could be a soft reboot of sorts for the Black Ops series. As such, the timelines could certainly match up to feature the JFK assassination. Indeed, not only could the assassination play a part in the game’s story, but if the Zeus connection is actually a hint, then the game might actually feature the assassination being prevented. Of course, all of this is speculation at this point. Neither Activision, Treyarch, nor Sledgehammer have actually announced the upcoming game, let alone revealed any details about its story.
