There’s An Unofficial Destiny Tabletop RPG in the Works

For those out there who just can’t get enough of Bungie’s Destiny series, a group of dedicated fans has begun crafting its own unofficial Destiny tabletop RPG system that will allow tabletop gamers to become legend.

According to this recent Reddit post, development of the Destiny tabletop RPG system began about a year ago, and that work certainly shows in the tabletop project’s official website. Similar to other tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons, the Destiny tabletop project will feature a core rulebook containing all the information players need to create their own Guardians and set forth on sci-fi adventures while being guided by a central ‘Game Master’ player (known in the Destiny tabletop game as ‘The Speaker’).

Destiny is coming to a tabletop near you.

The team behind the Destiny tabletop project says that it wants the game to focus more on depth rather than complexity, creating an environment that is equally welcoming to new players and experienced tabletop gamers. The entirety of the Destiny tabletop experience will be available for free to all interested players (rulebooks and other assets will be offered as free downloads on the website), and the development team hopes to expand the game in the future with additional expansions and other updates.

The one big caveat is that the Destiny tabletop game development team doesn’t appear to have any sort of official blessing or endorsement from Bungie or Destiny series publisher Activision (though a footnote on the game’s website says that Bungie apparently granted permission to use official Destiny artwork for the tabletop game’s assets). Ideally this won’t mean much since the tabletop game’s developers aren’t charging any money for the game, but there is still a risk that Bungie and/or Activision could shut things down if they felt their IP was being infringed upon.

The Destiny tabletop game doesn’t yet have a set release date, though a series of beta playtests are currently being held to iron out the core rules and mechanics, and all interested fans are invited to playtest the game themselves.
