Dark Souls Remastered is officially available as of today, allowing fans of the series to relive the original’s glory with some souped up graphics and online features. However, if Dark Souls 3 is more your speed, there are plenty of user-made mods out there that can help spice up the experience. And speaking of speed, there’s one new mod in particular that asks the player to do one seemingly simple (yet surprisingly difficult) thing: keep moving.
The Don’t Stop Moving mod, which was created by Nexus Mods user Loki, makes it so that whenever the player is standing still, their health will rapidly decrease. As long as your character is moving, you should be ok, but pause for even a moment and your health will start slipping away. According to the mod’s description, it also caps the maximum number of Estus Flasks (replenishable healing items) at five total, though Bone Shards can be used to up the amount of health that’s restored. The amount of health lost and the rate at which you lose it is also determined by your character’s Vigor stat, but even burlier characters won’t be able to turtle up behind a shield for long.
Loki warns that activating the Don’t Stop Moving mod requires the use of the Cheat Engine program in order to run the mod’s script. Enabling the mod while playing online shouldn’t get you banned, but if you want to be super safe you should disable online play while the mod is in use.
Successfully making it through Dark Souls 3 with the Don’t Stop Moving mod activated will likely require that you already have a good idea of where you’re going. If you want some pointers on how to move through the game at a fast pace, this recent Dark Souls 3 all bosses world record speedrun should help.
