Publisher THQ Nordic recently released its latest financial report, and among the news revealed by that report is that the studio has a huge number of games in development; around 80 in total! It also confirmed the sales success of Metro Exodus, which led to a pledge from the publisher to form a new agreement with 4A Games. Among the games currently in development, the majority are as yet unannounced.
THQ Nordic Has Dozens of Games in Development at its Studios
The latest financial report from THQ Nordic reveals a few different things. The first is the news that Metro Exodus was the publisher’s biggest ever launch. Despite its Epic Games Store exclusivity on PC, the game swiftly became the best-selling Metro title, and the best-selling title ever from THQ Nordic. The game reportedly made back all of the costs of development and marketing, with a sizeable profit on top. Indeed, sales of the game for Deep Silver totalled around £65 million (SEK 794 million).
However, the new report also revealed just how much the publisher is pushing current development. At present, THQ Nordic owns several different subsidiary studios, including Black Forest Games, Piranha Bytes, and Experiment 101. Additionally, the studio has partnership deals with a variety of companies and studios, and in recent years has actively bought the rights to a number of older franchises, including TimeSplitters.
However, the latest report refers specifically to just three entities; THQ Nordic, Deep Silver, and Coffee Stain; the largest three branches of the company. Overall, these three companies reportedly had around 80 games in development at the end of March. 48 of these titles were not yet announced. Indeed, the success of Metro Exodus prompted THQ to agree a new deal with 4A Games to fund their next; “upcoming, still undisclosed, AAA-project”. Clearly, THQ Nordic is planning to take full advantage of their recent expansion and further grow the company’s influence in the video game market.
