Back in October of last year, Capcom announced it was porting several classic Resident Evil games to the Nintendo Switch. Aside from the three games being ported (Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil 4), few specific were detailed. Fans weren’t told when the ports would arrive or what specific versions of each game were being ported. Now, Capcom has finally announced when the Switch ports will arrive and when fans can pre-order them.
Resident Evil Nintendo Switch Ports
Capcom confirmed a May 21 release date for all three ports via the official Resident Evil Twitter account. The Twitter post also cheekily remarks how the Switch ports allow fans to play the games anywhere, including:
- While on a train (Resident Evil 0 is predominantly set on a train)
- During mansion tours (who could forget the original Resident Evil’s Spencer Mansion setting?)
- Travelling across the European countryside (Resident Evil 4 is set in a fictional European village)
The versions being ported to Switch are the original GameCube releases for each game. For reference, that’s the Resident Evil HD Remaster and the standard versions of RE 0 and RE 4. All three games will launch as digital titles in North America and Europe. North American fans will also have the option of a physical Resident Evil Origins Collection. The Origins Collection bundles physical copies of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil HD Remaster (no Resident Evil 4 sadly).
Pricing for the standalone games and physical Origins Collection hasn’t yet been announced. However, pre-orders will officially open up in just a few days on Thursday, February 28. Considering how many times the three games have already been ported, the Switch versions shouldn’t be too expensive.
While we wait for the upcoming Switch ports, the Resident Evil 2 remake is still going strong. Be sure to read some of our recent Resident Evil 2 coverage like our No Way Out unlock guide. We also looked at this cool Dino Crisis fan mod for the remake.
