After months of waiting, Creative Assembly has officially announced the next upcoming DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2. Due to release in just under two weeks’ time, “The Warden & The Paunch” will bring two new Legendary Lords to the game; Eltharion the Grim for the High Elves, and Grom the Paunch for the Greenskins. Plus, in addition to the rest of its new content, the DLC will be launching alongside a major free update for the Greenskins faction.
What’s Coming in The Warden & The Paunch DLC?
When it launches on the 21st of May, The Warden & The Paunch will be the fifth Lord Pack DLC to come to Total War: Warhammer 2. It is the first DLC to come to the game since The Shadow & The Blade, which launched back in December 2019. It will also be the first Lord Pack DLC to feature the High Elves since the release of the very first one, The Queen & The Crone, not to mention that the Greenskins haven’t featured in a Lord Pack since the days of the first Total War: Warhammer game!
The High Elves will be getting Eltharion the Grim as a new Legendary Lord, leading the faction of Yvresse. Eltharion features his own unique campaign mechanics focused on the defence of his home territory, rather than participating in the standard Vortex campaign. His primary mechanic appears to be the rebuilding of the stronghold of Athel Tamarha. Here, he can interrogate captured enemy characters, as well as build structures to gain faction-wide bonuses. Alongside Eltharion, the High Elves will also be getting a range of new units. These include the fearsome Lion Chariots of Chrace, Silverin Guard, and the Arcane Phoenix.
As for the Greenskins, Grom the Paunch is their new Legendary Lord; a corpulently obese goblin who rides the mighty Chariot of Grom. His faction, Broken Axe, will also feature unique campaign mechanics which pit him against his long-time foe in Yvresse. These include Grom’s Cauldron, a system which allows him to cook recipes which grant major buffs for himself and his armies. Of course, the Greenskins will also be getting a host of new units and Regiments of Renown. These range from River Trolls to no less than three varieties of Snotling Pump Wagon! The Rogue Idol will also provide the faction with another huge and powerful monster.
All of this will be releasing on the 21st of May; the same day as a free update featuring a major rework for the Greenskins. They will be the last of the original game factions to finally get a rework. While Azhag the Slaughterer heads to a new campaign start location, the faction’s Waaagh! mechanics have been radically redesigned, along with their tech tree and many character skill lines. Finally, the DLC will also launch alongside the customary Free-LC Lord; in this case, High Elf legend Imrik the Dragonlord! Creative Assembly has yet to release details about this upcoming character, but will no doubt do so very soon.
