Total War: Three Kingdoms is due to release in exactly one week’s time, and to mark the occasion, Creative Assembly has released an official Total War: Three Kingdoms launch trailer. While previous trailers have focused on famous characters like Cao Cao and Zhuge Liang, this trailer finally takes a look at Liu Bei; the virtuous hero who is setting out to save the common folk of China from oppression.
The Total War: Three Kingdoms Launch Trailer and Liu Bei
Liu Bei is one of the twelve faction leaders available to play in Total War: Three Kingdoms (not including the three Yellow Turban DLC leaders). He is known as the Virtuous Idealist, and starts with the aid of his sworn brothers; the mighty warriors Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Liu Bei is one of the most important characters. Indeed, he goes on to found the Kingdom of Shu, one of the namesake Three Kingdoms. Fans have been waiting for a trailer to focus on him, as so far he has only had a cameo appearance in Cao Cao’s trailer.
The new Total War: Three Kingdoms launch trailer shows Liu Bei fighting against Cao Cao, most likely following Cao Cao’s rise to power as he seeks to consolidate his control of northern China. This aggressive conquest would drive Liu Bei southward to seek the aid of Sun Quan, leading to the famous Battle of Red Cliffs; the battle which would, more than any other battle, lead to the formation of the three kingdoms.
Liu Bei’s support from the people is evident throughout the trailer. Fans get to see him together with his greatest heroes; Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhuge Liang, and Zhao Yun, emphasising him as a leader surrounded by loyal generals as well as soldiers. Although Zhuge Liang and Zhao Yun don’t start in his faction, players playing as Liu Bei will have the opportunity to recruit them during the course of their campaigns. Total War: Three Kingdoms is due to release on the 23rd of May, when players can try out Liu Bei for themselves.
