Total War: Three Kingdoms, the newest title from Creative Assembly’s Total War franchise, released earlier today. The game was the most pre-ordered Total War game ever, and on day one it has already set another record; the most concurrent players playing a Total War game at once. Additionally, the studio released a new launch day trailer, highlighting the extremely positive review scores which the game is receiving.
Total War: Three Kingdoms Sets a Series Record for Most Concurrent Players
Creative Assembly’s new game launched earlier today, and within a few hours had quickly established a massive player base for itself. The game shot up Steam’s ranking charts for most played game, exceeding 147,000 players at one stage. This made it the fourth most played game on Steam at the time, ahead of GTA V, Rainbow Six Siege and Warframe, among others. Only Dota 2, PUBG, and CS:GO remained ahead of it. An all-day livestream hosted by Creative Assembly itself also attracted more than 20,000 viewers on Steam, in addition to audiences on Twitch and YouTube.
After confirming with Creative Assembly, Eurogamer announced that Three Kingdoms had already set a series record for most concurrent players. “It’s great to see so many people enjoying Total War: Three Kingdoms on launch day,” said Marketing Director Richard Gittins; “According to our records, it is indeed a record for the series on Steam, and hopefully as the rest of the world wake up, that number will keep going up.”
The new launch-day trailer highlights just how well the game has been received by reviewers too. The game has already been given several 9+/10 scores by major outlets, including IGN. Between excellent review scores and record-setting player engagement, it looks like Total War: Three Kingdoms will be a big success for Creative Assembly. In fact, the studio recently announced the structure of their plans for DLC. Indeed, it seems as though plenty of fans will be excitedly waiting for news of additional content.
