Earlier today, Creative Assembly announced The Hunter and The Beast DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2. Due to release on the 11th of September, this DLC will be the fifth Lord Pack DLC in the franchise, featuring both the Empire and the Lizardmen. Both factions will be getting a host of new units, lords, and Regiments of Renown in the content pack, not to mention the two new Legendary Lords; Markus Wulfhart and Nakai the Wanderer. The following list breaks down every new unit that’s coming in the DLC.
It’s worth noting that, although it will be part of the Free-LC which launches on the same day as The Hunter and The Beast, the Empire may be getting some additional unique units on the 11th of September. Included in the upcoming Empire rework is a note which states that Empire factions will get access to unique units when defending state capitals. However, no details of what these units will be have so far been revealed.
The Hunter and The Beast New Units: Empire
New Empire Lords
First up among The Hunter and The Beast new units is, of course, Markus Wulfhart himself. The Huntsmarshal of the Empire is a new Legendary Lord and also a rare archer lord who leads the Huntsmarshal’s Expedition faction. He wields the Amber Bow, a powerful armour-piercing anti-large weapon perfect for taking down enemy monsters. Plus, he can fire in all directions and he’s immune to psychology and has Stalk! On the campaign map, Wulfhart is more likely to succeed at ambushes and defend against ambushes. He also reduces the upkeep cost of Archer and Huntsmen units.
If you don’t want to use Wulfhart himself, you’ll also have access to the Huntsman General, a new generic Lord choice. This character is similar to Wulfhart, with Stalk, immunity to psychology, a bonus against large targets, and the ability to shoot in any direction. However, they do have a few tricks of their own. They improve the reload rate of other Empire ranged units, for instance, and have Vanguard Deployment.
New Empire Units
When it comes to units, the Empire is getting four new options in The Hunter and The Beast. First are Archers, a cheap ranged unit that shoot fast and move in a loose formation. Huntsmen, on the other hand, are a much better version of this unit. These archers can fire while moving and have the Stalk, Snipe, and Vanguard Deployment abilities! As a result, they are likely to be excellent skirmishers and ambushers in battle.
The other major unit addition for the Empire are War Wagons, a fast new chariot option. Each War Wagon carries six riflemen who each carries an Outrider rifle. Although the wagons aren’t as fast as Pistoliers, for instance, they are much tougher and can fire in all directions and while moving. There is also a variant of the War Wagon which swaps the soldiers for a Mortar. Although it doesn’t carry as much ammunition as a standard Mortar, it has far greater mobility.
New Empire Regiments of Renown
Of course, with the addition of new units, there are also several new Regiments of Renown to go along with them. For the Empire Archers, players will be able to recruit the Deathjacks. This elite group boasts the Stalk, Snipe, and Vanguard Deployment abilities, making them almost more akin to Huntsmen in terms of their battlefield role. Meanwhile, the Huntsmen themselves have the White Wolves, a powerful hybrid unit. In addition to their archery and stealth skills, White Wolves are capable in close combat. Plus, they are immune to psychology, and they Encourage nearby allied units.
Finally, there is a Regiment of Renown shown briefly in The Hunter and The Beast trailer; The Black Lions. This unique War Wagon doesn’t carry soldiers or even a Mortar; it carries a Helblaster Volley Gun! Although it has shorter range than the standard multi-barrelled cannon, it can move far faster, making it an extremely powerful armoured skirmish weapon.
The Hunter and The Beast New Units: Lizardmen
New Lizardmen Lords
Just like the Empire are getting Markus Wulfhart, the Lizardmen are getting their own fearsome Legendary Lord; Nakai the Wanderer. This massive Kroxigor leads the new Spirit of the Jungle faction, which is a Horde faction with unique gameplay mechanics. Nakai himself will likely be a close-quarters powerhouse. He also grants Kroxigor units in his army a boost to melee defence, as well as reducing their recruitment and upkeep costs. Although he presumably won’t have access to any mounts, as Kroq-Gar, Tehenhauin, and Tiktaq’to all do, he’s practically a monster himself!
Interestingly, Nakai also has access to three support abilities. Golden Tributes grants Perfect Vigour to all allied units in range. Miasma of Despair is an area-of-effect debuff which effects enemy units’ leadership, speed, and vigour. Finally, Primal Roar boosts Nakai’s own melee attacks and physical resistance. Plus, it grants the Rampage ability to nearby allied units. Alongside Nakai is the Ancient Kroxigor, a new generic Lord choice. These brutes are similar to Nakai, though like the Huntsman Generals, they aren’t as powerful as their respective Legendary Lord.
New Lizardmen Units
When it comes to new units, the Lizardmen will be getting a host of monstrous options with The Hunter and The Beast DLC. First of all, the faction will get the Razordon Hunting Pack. Razordons are spiny cousins of the Salamanders which were added in The Prophet and The Warlock. Although they don’t breathe fire, they can launch volleys of razor-sharp spikes – hence the name. These projectiles are great at piercing armour. The Lizardmen will also be getting the Sacred Kroxigors, a powerful new Kroxigor variant which boast magical attacks and very high weapon strength. This allows them to take on enemies that would normally outclass standard Kroxigors.
The big (literally) new addition to the Lizardmen roster comes in the form of the Dread Saurian; a colossal new monster which will actually be the biggest in the game. These crocodilian leviathans are Lustria’s apex predators, with in-game stats to match. The Feral Dread Saurian has enormous damage and armour and will Rampage. You can also get a Dread Saurian with a howdah loaded with Skinks, giving it a complement of poisoned ranged attacks. This variant is extremely expensive, and isn’t subject to Rampage.
New Lizardmen Regiments of Renown
Of course, there are also three new Regiments of Renown for the new Lizardmen units. The Amaxon Barbs are a unique Razordon Hunting Pack which has boosted missile resistance and poison attacks. This should make them excellent for picking apart powerful armoured units. For the Sacred Kroxigors, Lizardmen players will be able to recruit the Cohort of Huatl. This unit adds armour-sundering to the Sacred Kroxigors’ already formidable melee attacks. Plus, they’re even tougher, with better physical resistance.
Finally, the Lizardmen will be getting what could be one of the most expensive monsters in the game; the Shredder of Lustria. This unique Dread Saurian Howdah has a passive aura that reduces the leadership of nearby enemies. Plus, it Encourages nearby units and has a truly terrifying stat-line…
