The excitement of the biggest annual multi-stage bicycle race is coming back to video game consoles this summer. The Tour de France is a grueling event featuring 21 day-long stages that cyclists compete in for over three weeks in France and neighboring countries. Ultimately, what many consider the toughest bicycle race around brings prestige and glory to the winner.

Throughout the stages of the race, there are various time trials including team and individual TTs. For the latter of these, cyclists will battle alone against the timing clock to showcase their strengths. The upcoming Tour de France 2020 video game features a deeper time-trial mode to allow gamers the ability to experience this aspect of the thrilling race.

With the 2020 cycling simulation, you’ll need to employ the best strategy including stamina management to try to get your cyclist the win. In the deeper time-trial mode, there will be a lot more focus on your posture and sprint management.

The video below showcases various moments involving time-trial mode as virtual cyclists make their way across the grueling roadways.

The new reveal video already has plenty of fans excited for what’s to come when the video game arrives this summer. It’s been mentioned there will be a new first-person camera. In addition, the developers have noted “Breakaways, steep slopes and high-speed sprints will be more staggering than ever this year.”

Below are some of the new features and additions coming to Tour de France 2020:

  • Liège-Bastogne-Liège (“The Old Lady”), a 266km race of steep climbs
  • A redesigned interface that provides better anticipation of the course and position of competitors
  • A deeper time-trial where posture and sprint management are crucial for success
  • A more realistic AI that grabs any attack opportunity

Release date, platforms, and pre-orders

The Tour de France video game series has been going strong for over a decade thanks to developer Cyanide. In 2019, Cyanide/Big Ben Interactive released the game with a first-time ever online mode to take on three other players.

Back in March, it was revealed that Tour de France and Pro Cycling Manager would make their returns in 2020 thanks to NACON and Cyanide. They revealed key features, a trailer, and the game cover featuring Julian Alaphilippe. In addition, there is now an official Discord app for gamers to share feedback with the developers for the game.

While the major sports event itself was postponed from June 27 until August 29 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the video game will arrive ahead of that. Tour de France 2020 has a scheduled release date of June 4, 2020.

It’ll first arrive for the Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One. Gamers can already place pre-orders for the Xbox version at a cost of $39.99. Playstation pre-orders should also be on the way. PC gamers will be able to get the Tour de France 2020 game on Steam at a later date.

Tour de France 2020 is one of several new sports sim titles on the way in the summer months. In July, NASCAR Heat 5 and skateboarding simulation Skater XL makes their way to consoles. August will bring the exciting PGA Tour 2K21 golf simulation game.
