Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has only been out for two weeks and already, Infinity Ward is not only rolling out a new game mode, but two brand-new Modern Warfare maps as well. In addition to bug-fixes and quality-of-life improvements, today’s update contains a batch of “free community content”. Specifically, players can now try out the new Hardpoint game mode, as well as the new Krovnik Farmland and Shoot House maps.
The New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Maps
Described as a “precursor to upcoming in-game events,” the new Modern Warfare update features a range of free content. The first of the two new maps, Shoot House, is a medium-size map designed for 6v6 game modes. Meanwhile, Krovnik Farmland is a much larger map designed specifically for the Ground War game mode. Alongside the two new Modern Warfare maps, which are available to play right now (if you’ve installed the update, of course), is a new game mode.
“Race to secure and defend a specific ‘hardpoint’ on the map,” explains Infinity Ward; “and then repel this zone from enemy incursions. Several times during the match, the hardpoint rotates to a different position around the map, so it’s worth learning the likely location of each hardpoint so you can react accordingly. […] A point is gained every second you or a team member (or a group of teammates) is present with the hardpoint. When your team reaches 250 points, you can claim victory.”
According to Infinity Ward, today’s update is “just the start”. Certainly, it’s sensible for the developers to release an update like this. (If only to test the waters to gauge what sorts of content resonate with players.) As such, any feedback they receive during this event is likely to inform the next, larger, event for the game. Indeed, the studio does state that future events would be larger, suggesting that fans may be able to expect more than 2 new maps with other upcoming events.
