Next week, alongside the launch of the Xbox Series X, and subsequently that of the PS5, Gearbox will be rolling out a free next-gen upgrade for Borderlands 3. To celebrate the launch, and also mark the start of Borderlands 3 Season 2, the studio will also be releasing two new editions of the game; the Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition and Next-Level Edition.
The Borderlands 3 Ultimate & Next-Level Editions
Both of the new editions of Borderlands 3 are due to launch on the 10th of November, alongside the launch of the Xbox Series X. Both will also be available across all current-gen and next-gen platforms (although the Next-Level Edition won’t be available on PC). This does mean that the PS5 versions of both editions will be releasing a few days later, either on the 12th or 19th of November, depending on when the PS5 is launching in your global region.
The Borderlands 3 Next-Level Edition is a fairly simple re-release of the base game. According to Gearbox, its launch is to celebrate the game coming to Next-Gen platforms, although it will be available on current-gen consoles too. This version contains the core game and a new Multiverse Final Form cosmetic pack. This pack contains new skins and heads for all four Vault Hunters. Note that the Next-Level Edition will only be available digitally. Additionally, if you already own the game, you don’t need to buy this edition; you can download a free next-gen upgrade for your game if you buy a next-gen console.
The Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition, on the other hand, is much more substantial. This version of the game includes all the content which has come to the game up to the 10th of November, along with all the DLC add-ons. Notably, this includes all four DLC releases from Season 1, as well as both of the upcoming Season 2 add-ons. (The first of these, Designer’s Cut, is also launching on the 10th of November.) The Ultimate Edition also includes the Multiverse Final Form cosmetic pack.
