Lost on Mars, the second DLC for Far Cry 5, is due to release tomorrow. Prior to the launch, Ubisoft has released a new trailer which offers fans a detailed look at the key features of the expansion. Those range from the new weapons, to a look at the story, to the alien enemies players will encounter. Perhaps the best revelation, however, was the identity of “Brobot”, the new DLC companion.
The Far Cry 5 Lost on Mars DLC
The biggest feature of the new trailer is in explaining the story of Lost on Mars. Unlike Hours of Darkness, this DLC is leaping into the far future and to an entirely different planet. As such, the story is very, very different.
It was revealed in the Lost on Mars teaser trailer that the Gun for Hire Nick Rye was to be the protagonist of the DLC. The new trailer goes into a lot more detail, however. It reveals how Nick was brought to Mars and by whom; the disembodied head of Hurk, his body scattered across the Martian surface. Where Hours of Darkness featured a variety of minor companions in the form of your army squad-mates and allied Vietnamese soldiers, Lost on Mars features a single permanent Gun-for-Hire. This companion is Hurk, albeit in decidedly different form as “Brobot”, a floating robotic drone containing his head, and which has both guns and Hurk’s distinctive headband. Of course, it’s also colored red, white, and blue.
Brobot may actually be as ridiculous as the gun that turns targets into exploding farm animals. However, the video also highlights several other new weapons, including the Power Glove. Martian weapons eschew ammunition for simple cooldowns, encouraging players to switch between them during combat.
New Foes on Mars and An Old Enemy Revisited
It seems that the story of Lost on Mars is about reactivating an AI. To do so, players will need to activate nineteen towers scattered across the red planet. To climb these towers, players are equipped with a Gravity Belt, which allows them to leap high into the air and float between platforms. The Gravity Belt also plays a major role in combat against the new Arachnid enemies. Many of these creatures have weak spots on their backs, encouraging players to get above them. Getting from tower to tower will also require players to traverse the Martian surface, which is filled with burrowing Arachnids.
Unexpectedly, Lost on Mars actually features parts of Hope County. Strange geysers are located across the surface of the red planet, and by entering these, Nick can experience strange hallucinogenic episodes where he is seemingly transported back to a warped version of Hope County. Here, he’ll face aliens and cultists alike, as well as John Seed; one of the four main villains from Far Cry 5.
