Barely over a week after Ubisoft’s big ‘Ubisoft Forward‘ online reveal event, the studio has revealed that they plan to hold a second such event in just a couple of months’ time, in September. The July event gave fans a look at trailers for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion and more.
Ubisoft Forward #2 in September 2020
In the absence of big gaming industry events like E3 this year, developers like Ubisoft have been holding their own online showcases, along with big reveal events hosted by both Sony and Microsoft focusing on their next-gen plans. Ubisoft Forward was Ubisoft’s recent showcase event, broadcast live on the 12th of July. The event featured trailers or gameplay videos for upcoming Ubisoft titles, including Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Hyper Scape, Watch Dogs Legion, and so on. The event also featured the official announcement of Far Cry 6. (Although the game actually leaked a couple of days beforehand.)
Now, however, Ubisoft has revealed during a recent quarterly earnings call that they plan to hold a second event in September. “We will have another exciting Ubisoft Forward event in September,” said CFO Frédérick Duguet; “and we can’t wait to show you more. Ubisoft Forward was a major milestone and the response from our fans was very promising. We achieved record-high peak concurrent viewership during this event, surpassing our previous E3 conferences.”
That last statement should stick in people’s minds as they look ahead to 2021. Without E3, publishers have had the chance to host their own events, and they may well now decide that this format is better. As such, companies like Ubisoft may choose not to bother with E3 as and when it does return in 2021. As for the upcoming September event, fans should expect to see more of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. The upcoming next-gen game is due to launch later this year. As such, the September event is likely to feature more gameplay videos and so on for Valhalla.
