The release of Fallout 76 has seen mixed responses at best from fans. Many have been uncertain about the title since its announcement, due to how far it deviates from the norms of the series. Some of these concerns have been alleviated, but many have not. Recently, a disgruntled customer seeking to return a copy of Fallout 76 flew into a rage when he found that he could not and proceeded to vandalise the GameStop store.

Unhinged Customer Trashes GameStop When Unable to Return Fallout 76
It’s evident that many fans aren’t happy with the launch of Fallout 76. Bethesda has had to release three massive patches since the middle of the game’s BETA. The latest of these went live today, and all focus on addressing bugs and other issues. Additionally, the first report for retail sales during the game’s launch week in the UK show an 80% drop compared to the same week for Fallout 4. While there are factors contributing to this; a general increase in digital sales compared to retail, and the game launching in a particularly busy week, for example; the game’s performance is surely well below Bethesda’s hopes. While some fans’ concerns are justified, this latest incident clearly crosses the line of acceptable behaviour.

A video surfaced recently on ResetEra of a customer at a GameStop. The man, who was attempting to return a copy of Fallout 76, was informed by the store clerk that he could only receive store credit instead of a cash refund due to GameStop’s company policies. After stepping away from the counter, he flies into a rage and knocks over several displays before leaving. A second video, recorded in the aftermath, gives a little more context of the situation.
Notably, the store clerk handled the situation calmly and professionally; a far cry from the customer’s unhinged reaction. Why exactly the man flew into such a state of uncontrolled anger is unknown. Needless to say, reacting in such a way to information as mundane as this is not an indication of being in a healthy mental state. It’s unclear whether the individual will suffer legal repercussions because of his actions.
