First unveiled in 2017 by developer House House, Untitled Goose Game has since garnered a great deal of attention from fans who are eager to wreak pastoral havoc as a troublesome goose. Fortunately, the wait is now over, as the indie title launched yesterday on both PC (via the Epic Games Store) and the Nintendo Switch.
Untitled Goose Game Launches on PC and Switch
The premise of Untitled Goose Game is wonderfully simple. As put by the developers; “It’s a lovely morning in the village and you are a horrible goose”. The game is nominally a stealth sandbox game, with the player taking on the role of the aforementioned goose. You can then proceed to cause various forms of mischief throughout a small village, terrorising the locals. Of course, rather than utilising any sort of violence, the goose’s hijinks are mostly slapstick in nature, as the game’s trailers showcase.
Certainly, the game offers a unique take on stealth mechanics which are rarely seen in comparable titles. That, combined with the pleasant art style and sense of humour, are likely why it has gained such a following online. Indeed, at the time of writing, the game’s launch trailer has already received over 100,000 views, with the same trailer at over 500,000 views on Nintendo’s own channel! Evidently, the game has struck a chord with a huge audience of gamers.
House House, the four-person outfit responsible for developing Untitled Goose Game, is a small indie studio based in Melbourne, Australia. This is their second game, following the release of Push Me Pull You in 2016. While this second release does feature a similar art style, it applies that style to a larger, 3D world. Earlier this year, the studio announced at E3 that the game would come to PC on the Epic Games Store as part of an exclusivity deal. At the time, House House stated that this deal gave them; “the stability to go from part-time to full-time developers.”
