Epic Games has announced that the patch 5.40 would bring some major gameplay changes, as well as a new in-game item. As the game developer described it, this will be a mobility item, which means it will be similar to Rift-to-Go. However, the developer didn’t give us any details about it in the latest developer update, and many players wondered what the new item would be.
Fortunately, the mysterious item was revealed, and now we know that the next patch will bring. The item will be the Grappler, which is basically the grappling hook. Those of you who have followed Fortnite Battle Royale news and leaks already know that this item was leaked earlier in the season, and it’s finally going to be added to the game.

The gameplay video of the item showed us a few more details about it. It seems that players will have a few charges on the item, and they will be able to use the item as long as it’s not empty. Basically, it will work just like most of the weapons and will have its ammo.
Season 5 has brought a lot of mobility items to Fortnite Battle Royale, including all terrain karts, Rift-to-Go, and now the Grappler. It will be interesting to see if the game developer actually expands the map in season 6. Considering that players can now move quickly around the map, this wouldn’t be surprising.
Patch 5.40 is expected to be released on Tuesday, September 4. Considering that season 5 will enter week 9 next week, this could be the last patch in the season.
Epic Games has revealed some major gameplay changes this patch will bring, and there will also be an exclusive event with a special limited-time game mode. This event could be used to introduce Fortnite Battle Royale season 6, which is why so many players are eagerly waiting for it to be released.
