A Valorant Console Release on Xbox One & PS4 Isn’t Being Ruled Out
With the Valorant Closed Beta currently attracting enormous amounts of attention from gamers, there’s been a lot of speculation about where the game will eventually release. At the moment, the beta is only available on PC, and Riot appears to be focusing solely on that platform. However, it seems that the studio hasn’t ruled out an eventual Valorant console release… or even a release for mobile!
Will Valorant Eventually Get a Console Release?
At present, Valorant is only available on PC, and Riot haven’t officially announced a release coming to either PS4 or Xbox One. Given that the game is heavily based on CS:GO, it’s understandable that Riot’s focus is set firmly on PC. However, that doesn’t mean that the game won’t eventually come to consoles too, either alongside its launch on PC or at some later date.
Valorant’s Lead Designer, Trevor Romelski, recently spoke on a Twitch stream about the game and Riot’s plans. During that stream, Romelski stated that; “Our focus right now is on PC. We’re open to exploring new opportunities for other platforms, but for the time being what our current focus is, is on the PC platform”. This echoes a recent statement made by Joe Ziegler, the game’s director, during an interview with Express Online; “While we are exploring other platforms like console and mobile,” he explains; “right now the team is working hard to deliver a top notch experience on PC.”
All of this indicates that a console release (and even a mobile release, in fact) are on the table. However, they are much more likely to come at some stage after the PC release than at the same time. As such, console gamers shouldn’t get their hopes up for Riot expanding the beta to the PS4 and Xbox One. A console beta is actually quite unlikely to ever happen for Valorant, particularly if its console release does occur post-launch. In fact, with next-gen consoles not far away, it’s entirely possible that Riot may choose to wait for the release of the Xbox Series X and PS5 before bringing Valorant to consoles, in order to take advantage of the better hardware.
