Vampyr, the latest game from Dontnod Entertainment, has reached the top spot in the UK video game retail charts. The achievement makes Vampyr the only game published by Focus Home Interactive ever to have claimed that top spot, and the third new IP to take the spot this year.
When Vampyr released, the gothic action-RPG received fairly average review scores; typically around 7-8/10. While reviewers strongly praised the game’s story and cast, most reviewers also criticized the game for having a poor combat system. While reviewers may not have been blown away by the title, it seems that gamers have received it better. The latest weekly retail chart from the UK shows Vampyr seizing the top spot from God of War, FIFA 18, and Detroit: Become Human, all of which have competed for the top spot in recent weeks.
The Last Week’s Retail Chart for the UK
Vampyr’s success has pushed God of War down into #3, behind FIFA 18. Detroit: Become Human fell to the #4 bestselling spot, just ahead of Far Cry 5. Interestingly, Fallout 4 continues to climb the charts, claiming the #6 spot after reaching #10 in the previous week. Vampyr is the first title published by Focus Home Interactive to ever reach the #1 spot in the UK. Interestingly, it is the third new IP to claim the spot so far in 2018; following Detroit: Become Human and Sea of Thieves. Although major IPs tend to dominate news and sales, the success of new properties in recent months has shown that games do not necessarily have to rely on well-known franchise names to get attention from gamers.
