Warhammer: Vermintide 2’s First DLC Pack Launches in Late August

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 developer Fatshark has announced that the game’s first major DLC pack, titled Shadows over Bogenhafen, will launch in just a few days on August 28.

Shadows over Bogenhafen arrives in just a few days.

A teaser trailer accompanied the announcement, but it doesn’t really reveal anything about what the new DLC will contain. A press statement from Fatshark CEO Martin Wahlund did at least confirm that the DLC will involve players venturing to the titular city of Bogenhafen and dealing with resident big baddie Grandfather Nurgle (also known as Plague Lord Nurgle):

“We are kicking off the fall with more content to Vermintide 2. [In the] last week of August, the players will be invited to Bogenhafen, a city where the Heroes will be tested like never before by Grandfather Nurgle’s unpleasant attentions”

The press release also stated that Fatshark will fully unveil Shadows over Bogenhafen and its new content sometime during this week’s Gamescom video game conference in Cologne, Germany. A simultaneous release for the new DLC is expected for both the PC and Xbox One versions of Vermintide 2 (the game’s PlayStation 4 version is slated to launch sometime later this year).

Previous game updates for Vermintide 2 have added in minor new features such as new cosmetic items and daily challenges but it sounds like Shadows over Bogenhafen will be much more substantial in terms of scale. It isn’t yet known whether Shadows over Bogenhafen will be a free or paid expansion, but for now it’s probably safe to assume it will be the latter.

Even though Shadows of Bogenhafen won’t launch until next week, Vermintide 2 players can try out the game’s recently launched series of sanctioned mods right now (assuming, of course, that they’re playing on PC). If you’re looking for other ways to get your fantasy gaming fix and you happen to own a Nintendo Switch, you’ll also be happy to hear that Diablo III’s Eternal Edition has been confirmed as an upcoming Switch release.
