Warhammer: Vermintide 2’s Winds of Magic Expansion Arrives This Summer

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 developer Fatshark has officially unveiled the game’s first proper expansion which is titled Winds of Magic. Set to release this summer, Winds of Magic will include a new endgame experience, a new enemy faction, and more.

Vermintide 2 Wind of Magic Expansion

PC Gamer released the first exclusive details for the Winds of Magic expansion. According to Fatshark, Winds of Magic is significantly larger in scope than Vermintide 2’s previous Shadows over Bogenhafen DLC.

Winds of Magic doesn’t add in any new adventure maps, but its new endgame mode sounds like a worthy alternative. The as-yet-named mode pits players against a never-ending gauntlet of enemies and distinct modifiers called “weaves.” Weaves will combine specific elements to create unique gameplay scenarios with their own objectives and modifiers. Fatshark says weaves won’t be randomly generated, and will indeed have their own leaderboards and intended strategies.

Bring On The Beastmen

Something which should help spice up weaves even further is the arrival of the Beastmen faction. Beastmen will join Vermintide 2’s existing Skaven and Rotblood Tribe enemy factions, and naturally they’ll have their own signature units. For example, Beastmen spear-wielders will be able to attack players at range. The Beastmen Standardbearer, meanwhile, drops totems which can bolster nearby enemy units.

One final feature which PC Gamer teased was new weapon types for each of Vermintide 2’s playable characters. The specifics are being kept under wraps for now, but one of the new weapon types will be throwing axes. Again, it’s too early to say, but throwing axes seem like a good fit for the dwarf hero Bardin Goreksson.

Winds of Magic doesn’t yet have a release date  but Fatshark is prepping for a summer, 2019 launch. The expansion also doesn’t have a price point, though that’s not surprising given how far away its release is. Given Shadows over Bogenhafen’s $10 price tag, we’re guessing Winds of Magic will be in the $20-30 range.

Winds of Magic is still several months out, but that doesn’t mean Fatshark’s not supporting Vermintide 2 in the meantime. In fact, the game just recently received an update which adds in weekly quests and collectible paintings.
