Red Dead Redemption 2 has had one of the longest news droughts for a game with a confirmed release date we’ve ever seen. Recent leaks had us on the edge of our seats – with a leaked artwork booklet having a confirmed date of October 30, practically confirming the lack of yet another delay. The game has had a huge lack of information surrounding it, with the only information we have being the name of the protagonist, and some story details. Last Monday, Rockstar Games announced that a third trailer would be published today, and they have released it.
The game takes place before the events of Red Dead Redemption, and you play as Arthur Morgan – an outlaw in the Van Der Linde gang ran by Dutch Van Der Linde. Roaming the Wild West and trying to survive the harsh conditions through a life of crime, you must do whatever it takes. Previously, we speculated if the game was going to be delayed again, and the release of a third trailer today has confirmed that marketing is starting, and a delay is in fact off of the table – it’s time. While the game will sell well, it almost certainly will not reach the heights of Grand Theft Auto V, the most profitable commercial entertainment product of all time. You can watch the third trailer below.
The trailer released today at 11AM Eastern time and features information about the official plot of Red Dead Redemption 2, including the confirmation of the inclusion of a young John Marston, who was the playable protagonist for the original Red Dead Redemption. He won’t be the main character in this one, that’s for Arthur Morgan.
“After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.”
Set in America in 1889, near the end of the Wild West, Red Dead Redemption 2 will explore the dawn of the modern age and the death of the cowboy era. It will release October 26, 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One only.
