Although Gearbox has shown off Borderlands 3 much more than initially expected after the game’s announcement, they certainly kept plenty to show off at E3. To kick off the studio’s Borderlands 3 E3 appearance, they released an explosive new trailer entitled “We Are Mayhem.” The trailer showcases the four new Vault Hunters and gives fans a glimpse at the upcoming story.
The Borderlands 3 E3 Trailer: New Vault Hunters and More
Like all Borderlands 3 trailers, the Borderlands 3 E3 trailer is loud, frenetic, and explosive; all things fans are expecting from a series synonymous with over-the-top action. However, while previous trailers have focused mostly on gameplay, this latest trailer gives fans a glimpse at the story, the villains, the new Vault Hunters, and a lot of familiar faces. With the game due to release in just three months’ time, this is likely Gearbox’s biggest promotional appearance before launch. Clearly, they’ve pulled out all the stops.
Narrated by Lilith, who it appears will be a major character in Borderlands 3, the trailer makes mention of the new villainous faction; the Children of the Vault. “The Children of the Vault is a psycho cult,” explains Lilith; “ten billion followers demand we join or die.” It doesn’t go into any further detail, but it does confirm that the cult are the new enemy faction, and that the twins (the game’s villains) are its leaders.
The trailer also presents a number of characters returning from past instalments. Alongside Lilith, fans get to see Maya training a new Siren, Claptrap, Tannis and Rhys, Sir Hammerlock, and others. Of course, fans also get to see the four new Vault Hunters; Moze, FL4K, Amara, and Zane Flynt. Story details are still relatively scarce, but at this stage, it seems that Gearbox may be keeping much of the story intentionally under wraps until launch. Instead, they seem to be focusing on promoting what Borderlands debatably does best; action.
