All Weapon Changes in the Apex Legends Chaos Theory Update

The Chaos Theory Collection Event, which launched earlier today in Apex Legends, has arrived in concert with two other things; namely, the game’s long-awaited Nintendo Switch release, and a significant new game update. The latter includes changes for both Legends and weapons, including some significant quality-of-life improvements for gold weapons.

Apex Legends Chaos Theory Update: Weapon Changes

All told, the Apex Legends Chaos Theory Update targets three of the game’s guns for balance tweaks; the Hemlok, Mastiff, and Wingman. First up is the Hemlok, which has received an increase to its hip-fire spread. According to Respawn, the Hemlok’s hip-fire burst damage; “was feeling a little too consistent for an AR that should excel at medium range”. As such, the weapon’s close-quarters damage spikes should be mitigated somewhat.

The Mastiff, meanwhile, has had adjustments to both its damage and fire rate. The former has fallen from 13 to 11, while the latter has gone up from 1.0 to 1.1. Respawn clarifies that these changes are to better place the weapon between the EVA-8 and Peacekeeper. The Wingman, finally, has simply gained an extra bullet for all of its magazine sizes.

In addition to specific weapon tweaks, today’s Apex Legends Update includes several tweaks for how optics are found in-game. To start with, all gold Assault Rifle and LMG default optics have been updated to the 2x Bruiser optic. However, there is a much more significant change which has arrived alongside this adjustment. Namely, that players will now be able to swap optics on weapons that would normally be locked. Until now, most gold and crate weapons featured fully-locked attachment slots, meaning that players couldn’t customise them in any way. This is no longer the case, however, at least where it concerns optics. The sole exception to this new rule is the Kraber, the optic of which will remain locked.
