Weapon Updates and Hit Impact VFX Changes in Valorant Patch 1.07

Valorant Patch 1.07 is now live in-game following its rollout earlier today, bringing a host of new Agent balance changes and more. Included in this new update are a range of significant weapon adjustments, especially when it comes to the game’s shotguns. In addition, Riot has included an update to Valorant’s Hit Impact VFX in order to improve the clarity of hit registration.

Valorant Patch 1.07: Weapon Updates

First of all, Valorant Patch 1.07 includes a wide selection of new weapon updates. Shotguns are the big focus of this patch, with a broad range of changes for all weapons in this category. For instance, the aimpunch from getting shot in the head by a shotgun will now be lower than all other weapons. Furthermore, hitting an enemy further than 10 metres away will now apply a different tagging value. This will impose a 30% slow debuff for 0.5 seconds, fading back naturally to normal speed.

“The goal of these changes is to improve the feel of playing against shotguns and to ensure that they don’t end up doing odd things,” explains Riot; “For example, tagging or aimpunching people from longer than expected ranges and then a teammate ends up killing someone who’s debuffed, or makes it hard to fight back against a weapon that should be deadly up close but fairly non-threatening outside its effective range.”

In addition, three weapons have received specific alterations. First, the Judge has had its price increased from 1500 to 1600. Second, the Shorty’s range falloff has been reduced from 9m to 7m, while its headshot multiplier is now x2 instead of x3. The Vandal is the only one of the three to actually receive a buff; its firing rate has gone up from 9.25 to 9.75, and its damage has gone up from 39 to 40.

Valorant Patch 1.07: Hit Impact VFX

In addition to the weapon updates, Patch 1.07 includes some changes to the Valorant Hit Impact VFX. Given that changes to this area can be very sensitive, Riot will reportedly be keeping careful watch to ensure this doesn’t change things too much. According to the patch notes, server hit VFX will now spawn at the hit location on the target and stay at that position. Previously, hit VFX stayed at the game space location instead. Additionally, a small spark VFX will now spawn immediately at the game space location when a hit occurs.

Riot has also changed the size of headshot VFX in today’s patch, and adjusted sparks hit VFX to resemble the blood VFX. “Especially at large ranges,” explains Riot; “headshot VFX would often cover up the head of a player and add additional difficulty in tracking players through the effect. We’ve scaled down this VFX slightly in an attempt to make it easier to keep track of targets.”
