If you’re interested in all the hype surrounding Fortnite and the new Season 4 fun and games, you’ve probably wondered a time or two how you access all the new content. It’s very simple, as long as you’re a Fortnite veteran. Otherwise, it might be a little confusing. What’s a Battle Pass and why do you need it? Why would you want it? Here’s a little primer as to what you should expect from the $9.99 charge, and all it grants you. You might be surprised at what you actually get!
What is a Fortnite Battle Pass?
A Battle Pass is an upgrade you can purchase in the free-to-play game Fortnite that’s totally optional, but having it will unlock additional things. It doesn’t magically make you a pro overnight or get you tons of streamer friends like Ninja, but it will help to make things a little easier. You can earn a lot more cosmetic items with it, for one, as it outfits you with a series of challenges you can complete. For instance, you might need to kill X amount of enemies, or kill them with a specific weapon for an entire map. Finishing challenges will net you experience points toward earning a new tier level.
What are tiers?
Tiers are essentially the “level” you are in Fortnite via the Battle Pass. You can either buy new tiers via in-game currency called V-Bucks or earn them, and as you rise through the ranks you get items that correspond to the goodies available inside a specific Battle Pass.
Why do I want a Battle Pass?
It gives you more to work toward, so you can play through the game to complete challenges instead of just playing around with friends, and offers a lot more to work toward. If fun is all you care about and you have no desire to go through new tiers, you probably won’t want to pick up a pass. But if you want to go through an entire season (the 10 weeks the pass is good for) you’ll come out with plenty more value from the entirety of the experience than you would have otherwise. It’s another way for Epic Games to (earn money, duh) give players more fun instead of an aimless time within the game.
