What to Expect From the New EM2 Rifle in Black Ops Cold War Season 5

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 has arrived, and as per usual, its first two new weapons are included in the new season’s Battle Pass. Alongside the TEC-9 SMG, the brand-new EM2 Assault Rifle is available to use once you reach the requisite Tier, and by now, many players will likely have gotten their hands on it. But is it actually worth using?

While the new Season 5 SMG isn’t usable until you reach Tier 31, the EM2 unlocks once you reach Tier 15. As such, it’s likely that many players will have it in their arsenal by now. This British weapon is a powerful new bullpup assault rifle, fully-automatic, though with a relatively slow rate of fire. Of course, the assault rifle weapon category is already a large one, with a lot of competitive options. Fortunately, the EM2 does manage to bring a few unique traits to the table with which to set itself apart.

Compared to other assault rifles, the EM2’s firing accuracy is certainly above-average, although this may make it harder to use in more close-range, frenetic combat. However, it has a particular tool in its arsenal of attachments which can make it much more powerful up close; the Task Force Barrel. With this attachment, the EM2 is capable of eliminating targets in just three shots; “at ranges of up to at least 50 meters,” according to Treyarch, and that’s not counting any potential headshots.

One possible weakness of the EM2 is its fire rate, which is slower than several other assault rifles. However, with a high damage and excellent accuracy at range, the EM2 can serve as a versatile midway option between an assault and marksman’s rifle. Attachments aside, however, it is likely to suit larger-scale, open maps more than close-range.
