What to Expect From the New TEC-9 SMG in Black Ops Cold War Season 5

As per usual with the launch of a new Call of Duty season for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, players can now get their hands on two new weapons, both included as part of the Season 5 Battle Pass. The latter of these, available upon reaching Tier 31, is the TEC-9 SMG.

According to Treyarch, the new TEC-9 SMG is now the most unique submachine gun in the game. This is because it boasts a unique action mechanism, allowing the wielder to fire solely with semi-automatic. This restriction on fire rate means that the weapon is also surprisingly stable, not suffering from the high recoil and imprecise control of other SMGs. Players should note, however, that 3-round-burst and full-auto attachments are also available for the TEC-9 SMG.

This new SMG has several benefits, but it synergises particularly with a stealthy playstyle. Both of the alternate firing mechanism attachments, for example, come with position concealment built-in automatically. As an added benefit, the TEC-9’s lethality is relatively high, particularly when set to three-round burst. “On its own,” explains Treyarch; “the TEC-9 can eliminate targets in three shots anywhere within 10 metres. Its blowback nature allows Operators to place their shots more accurately, differing dramatically from a category filled with more traditional spray-and-pray options.”

Alongside the new SMG, players can also unlock the EM2 Assault Rifle relatively easily. They simply need to reach Tier 15 in the Season 5 Battle Pass. This full-auto, bullpup assault rifle is highly versatile, and also offers a three-round burst attachment which can make the weapon both precise and lethal. A third weapon, the Cane, which offers players a rather classy melee weapon, is also available to acquire in-game. Later in Season 5, Treyarch will be releasing the Marshal, a powerful double-barrelled pistol. The release date for this arrival is currently unknown.
