Rust is one of the newest additions to the roster of maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and like many maps in the game already, series veterans may well recognise it straightaway. The Modern Warfare Rust map first featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, after all. The map’s latest edition, debuting as part of Season 2, is dustier than ever.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Rust Map
“Rust takes place in an oil yard somewhere in the Urzikstan desert,” writes Activision; “The small, but vertical battleground is home to pipelines, communication stations, and a tall tower that creates dynamic gameplay and expands the range of this sandbox.”
Rust, which features 12 map zones in total, is available to play in both standard multiplayer and Gunfight. (Note that Gunfight Tournaments are live as of today; an ideal opportunity to try out the new map too.) When you first load into Rust, Allegiance players will spawn at the Front Gate, while the Coalition spawn at the Loading Dock. Of course, the focal point of the map is the central Tower, which provides vantage points to overlook most of the rest of the map. However, the tower itself doesn’t offer as much cover as prospective snipers might like.
In Domination, the three zones spawn behind the Comms Station, in the Maintenance area, and outside the Oil Derrick. In Hardpoint, meanwhile, expect gameplay to focus on the north side of the map; capture points spawn in both the Oil Derrick and at the Front Gate, for instance, as well as in the Generators and Maintenance areas. (Headquarters features the same spawn points as in Hardpoint.) Indeed, in addition to being the Allegiance spawn, the Front Gate is a key location in Hardpoint, Headquarters, and Cyber Attack too. Players should note the lack of ceiling cover throughout Rust, of course; there is little protection from aerial Scorestreaks, especially in some of the key objective areas.
