From the game’s initial announcement back at the 2018 Game Awards, to the fairly recent Nintendo Direct, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order has had fans speculating like crazy. While Nintendo offered more information about the roster of playable characters in the game at said Nintendo Direct, this still hasn’t satisfied the most curious of players. But now, with the official cover art revealed, a few more mysteries have been solved.
Who Will Rise Up Against Thanos?
The obvious can of course be acknowledged first, as most of the characters on the cover are ones previously confirmed by Nintendo. X-Men such as Nightcrawler and Storm stand amongst the Guardians of the Galaxy and several prominent Avengers. But it doesn’t take too keen an eye to notice a few other standout figures in the Marvel universe.
Venom is right at the forefront of the image, barely tucked away behind Captain Marvel. While his presence was previously confirmed in the game, it should be noted that it was unclear as to whether or not he would be playable. This question has been inadvertently answered though, as only playable characters are featured on the cover. With not a single one of the game’s antagonists gracing the box art, this solidifies Venom’s place on the playable roster.
The Merc With a Mouth, and everyone’s favorite fourth wall shattering anti-hero, Deadpool is also featured in the art. Standing in the lower left corner beside Black Widow, the infamous mercenary has been a time tested fan favorite across all mediums. Given his presence in previous Ultimate Alliance titles, it’s no mystery why Team Ninja elected to include him if only to please fans eager to listen to his quips.
Perhaps the most interesting reveal on the box art comes in the form of unexpected visitors Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen. For those unfamiliar, these two Spider-Men exist in alternate universes as the heroes of their versions of New York. Featured in Spider-Verse and Ultimate Spider-Man stories across various mediums, their inclusion is indeed highly unexpected, but a welcome one nonetheless. This could also be a good indicator as to the fact that fans may not know as much about Ultimate Alliance 3’s roster as previously assumed.
