Fans awaiting MLB The Show 22 release date no longer have to wait for the details. A special reveal announcement video arrived on Monday which included the new cover athlete. Along with that, they presented when MLB The Show 22 is coming out, along with the latest pre-order details. Here’s the latest about the upcoming San Diego Studio baseball simulation game.
MLB The Show 22 cover star revealed
The MLB The Show 22 pre-orders are coming soon, as a cover and release date is now known. Ramon Russell and Luis Martinez appeared in a live stream reveal show on Monday, January 31 to present the latest cover athlete for the game. The Show 21 cover star Fernando Tatis Jr. also appeared in a short video clip to help present the new cover, tossing the ball from the dugout back to the hosts.
After several countdowns, the new MLB The Show 22 cover star was revealed as Shohei Ohtani. The Los Angeles Angels star had an impressive season in which he earned the AL MVP Award. Ohtani a dual-threat as a pitcher and hitter, was also a starter in the All-Star Game.
Shohei’s 2021 MLB season included a .257 batting average with 46 home runs, 138 hits, and 100 RBIs. As far as pitching goes, he excelled there as well. Ohtani started 23 games, finished with a 9-2 record with a 3.18 ERA and 156 strikeouts.
Ohtani makes history as the first-ever pitcher to appear on a cover of MLB The Show. As Ramon mentioned in the reveal, he was also a unanimous choice to be this year’s cover star.
He joins several other Angels players who previously graced covers of MLB video games. The legendary Vladimir Guerrero appeared on MLB 2006 which arrived in March 2005 for Playstation 2 and PSP. Prior to that, Mo Vaughn appeared on the Playstation-exclusive MLB 2000 in February 1999.
VGR previously offered Ohtani as our predicted cover athlete for The Show 22. As a celebration of Ohtani’s cover, MLB The Show 21 gamers can redeem their Finest Shohei Ohtani in the Show shop to get a Bat Skin and Banner.
