The Last of Us was an epic journey, one which took us on a cross-country trip we’ll never forget. It’s easy to forget that the first chapter of the game took place in Austin, Texas—we spend most of the early part of the game in Boston. Considering how hard it was just to get across town, it seems remarkable that eventually, Joel and Ellie manage to fight their way clear out to Salt Lake City, Utah.
The settings in The Last of Us were stunningly rendered with astonishing realism and detail. With Last of Us: Part II taking that graphical realism to a new level, fans are eager to find out what settings we’ll be able to explore in the next installment.
Here Were the Settings Featured in The Last of Us
In The Last of Us, we fought our way through Boston to try and meet up with the Fireflies, tragically losing Tess along the way. We faced our first bloater in Bill’s Town before getting disastrously stranded in Pennsylvania.
Our journey then took us away from urban settings, bringing us out to the scenic wilderness of Jackson, Wyoming where Joel meets up with his brother, Tommy. Joel and Ellie’s quest then takes them to Lakeside, Colorado before the final showdown with the Fireflies in Salt Lake City. Finally, the pair return to Tommy’s settlement at the end of the game.
We Know We’ll Be Traveling to Portland in Last of Us: Part II
So far, what we know so far about Last of Us: Part II is pretty sparse in many regards—particularly where the settings are concerned. In fact, all we know for certain is that a “large part” of the action will be centered in Seattle. This detail came from Neil Druckmann during PlayStation Experience 2017.
Where Else Might We Battle the Infected?
Regarding the first game, we could just as easily have said that a “large part” of the game took place in Boston, or in Pittsburgh. Nonetheless, we visited a lot of diverse settings.
So we can expect that while we may spend a “large part” of our time in Seattle, we will be getting around a lot more than that. Chances are good we’ll see Jackson again, at least in flashbacks or a prologue.
The first game didn’t visit the West Coast at all, so it seems like a trip up or down the coast could make for an exciting journey. But that’s just one idea—most of the country is still unexplored, so there are a lot of possibilities. Since we’re starting in the Pacific Northwest, we could even roam up to Canada.
Last of Us: Part II is going to be showcased during E3 next week. Check back with us for updates then—there should be a lot of news on the game’s setting and more!
