Eager 2K fans are wondering who the NBA 2K22 cover athlete will be as several teasers have now arrived online. One of those teasers features an actual shot of a former cover star, to tease who could be on the new game’s cover. In another teaser, fans get a blurred-out image of a player, which has many people guessing about who it is. Here are the latest details on the official cover reveal for the NBA 2K22 video game.
Zion Williamson teases cover star reveal
Last week, fans got their first actual NBA 2K22 teaser in the form of a quick video clip featuring next-gen cover star Zion Williamson. The New Orleans Pelicans All-Star is seen holding two blurred-out games or cover shots in his hand to further tease fans. In the clip, Zion announces he’s about to pass the torch to the new cover star for 2K22. However, he asks fans to weigh in with their comments about who it could be.
The original IG post (captured in a YouTube video clip below) brought a range of replies. Among the guesses were Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony. One or more of those players could grace the next editions of the upcoming game.
Second teaser might have shown cover star on the court
While Zion’s NBA 2K22 cover reveal teaser arrived days ago, a newer teaser clip popped up on Tuesday, July 13. In this one, it’s a longer tease as a camera heads down a hall, telling fans to “wait for it.” The camera view heads towards a basketball court where various individuals are on the court including what could be the actual cover star. Unfortunately, their image is blurred out.
The clip tells fans to Like the post which is on Instagram and Twitter, in order to get the official cover reveal. However, they don’t specify when to expect that reveal of the new game’s cover.
Rumored 2K22 cover leak showed three players
For weeks now, there have been rumors floating around about who the NBA 2K22 cover athlete could be, or who the stars could be on various editions. One popular piece of content that has been making the rounds shows a three-star cover featuring current player Kevin Durant and former stars Dirk Nowitzki and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Check it out below.
The tweet indicates that these stars could grace different editions of the NBA 2K22 game, such as Current-Gen, Next-Gen, and Legends Edition. Another speculation for 2K22 cover star predictions has Luka Doncic possibly a frontrunner for the new cover.
The NBA 2K21 cover for current generation consoles features Portland Trail Blazers star, Damian Lillard. Zion Williamson appears on the next-generation cover, while there’s also Kobe Bryant on the Mamba Forever Edition.
Could 2K’s IG Story have included clue?
Another possible hint at the cover star was teased on the NBA 2K Instagram Story. They shared a short video clip featuring NBA trainer Chris Brickley, talking about the various star clients he’s worked with, including many of the past scoring champions. The clip cuts out but gives a date of July 14, which is Wednesday. That could be when the NBA 2K22 cover reveal happens.
Over on Chris’ Instagram, his most recent post shows him and his client Carmelo Anthony on the hardwood. Could this be the NBA 2K22 cover star, or one of them?
Stay tuned as we’ll have the latest update for 2K’s next cover star(s) once the reveals arrive!
