Witcher 3 Director Takes Over as Director of Cyberpunk 2077

Last month, it emerged that Sebastian Stępie, Creative Director of Cyberpunk 2077, was leaving his position and moving to work for Blizzard. It’s not known what Stępie will be doing at Blizzard. However, he appears to have been hired to direct an as-yet unannounced project. However, this obviously left one of Cyberpunk 2077’s most senior positions vacant. Fortunately, that role seems to have now been filled by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz; the director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz Takes Over as Design Director for Cyberpunk 2077

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz is a fifteen year veteran of CD Projekt Red who began working for the company as a Designer for the original Witcher in 2005. It’s unknown exactly what he’s been doing since he served as Game Director for The Witcher 3 and its various expansions. However, a fan on Reddit recently spotted that he had updated his LinkedIn with a new role; “CD Projekt Red’s Vice President of Game Development / Design Director – Cyberpunk 2077.”

Witcher 3 Director Becomes Cyberpunk 2077 Director

It seems likely that Tomaszkiewicz has taken over directorship of Cyberpunk 2077 in its final stages to fill the role after Stępie’s departure. After all, most of the decisions which a Creative Director would make are at the earlier stages; most likely why Stępie chose to leave now, towards the end of the game’s development. Given that Tomaszkiewicz also appears to have been promoted to VP of Game Development; his stewardship of Cyberpunk 2077 may be a less involved role.

It’s still unknown when Cyberpunk 2077 is due to release. However, CD Projekt Red now has a team of over 400 developers working on the game. The studio also recently confirmed their attendance for E3 later this year, all but guaranteeing that Cyberpunk 2077 will be one of the biggest appearances at the event. Estimates range for the game’s release date, but the most realistic span from late 2019 to early 2020.
