Well, it seems that the show’s success has awoken a lot of nostalgia among fans of The Witcher games; just two days ago, a new record for ‘most concurrent players’ was set for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt; four-and-a-half years after its release!

Of course, the new Netflix series is an adaptation of the original novels, and not directly related to the CD Projekt Red games. However, it appears that its release has nevertheless spurred a great deal of interest in the games among fans. No doubt many of the gamers who have been playing The Witcher 3 in the last few days are returning to the critically-acclaimed RPG over the holidays. Although, it’s also possible that the show has spurred new people to give the game a try as well. Indeed, it’s likely that sales of The Witcher novels have also gone up in the same time period. Whatever the case, ever since the release of the series, the game has seen a colossal upsurge in the number of active players.
The new record for most gamers playing The Witcher 3 concurrently was set on the 30th of December. Data showing the recent surge in players, and the new record, is available on Twitter thanks to the Investor Relations account for the CD Projekt Group. That screenshot indicated that the new record was 93,835 active players. However, other figures from later in the day were shared below the original post. These show that the record has since reached 94,601; a massive figure for a purely single-player RPG which is now almost five years old!
Certainly, it shows just how much of an impact The Witcher Netflix series has had since its release. Of course, it also shows how enduringly beloved The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is among fans. There’s a reason why Cyberpunk 2077 has been voted “Most Wanted Game” two years in a row, after all. Fortunately, fans only need to wait a few months longer before the highly-anticipated RPG finally arrives. In fact, fans ought to remember that CD Projekt Red actually have a second, secret RPG currently in development. At present, fans know practically nothing about this upcoming title. However, the plan is for it to release in 2021, and coincidentally, CD Projekt did just renew their license to make Witcher games…
