The Witcher Netflix Series Writers Are Already Writing the Finale

Lauren Hissrich, the showrunner for the Witcher Netflix series, has kept fans consistently up-to-date with the status of the upcoming show; far more so than normal for a project like this. In one such recent update, she seemed to suggest that the writing team have already reached the series’ finale.

The Current Status of the Witcher Netflix Series

The Witcher Netflix series was first announced last year. The series is an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s original novels, rather than the CD Projekt Red game franchise. Lauren Hissrich is the series’ showrunner, and has been surprisingly open with fans about the current status of the project. From her, fans learned when the writers first convened, and when audition scripts were first sent out. Now, Hissrich has posted a tweet which suggests that the writers have reached the finale of the series; just four months after the writers’ room first opened.

There have yet to be any official casting decisions announced; the show is still in the early stages of production. Recently, a leak resulted in an audition script being made public. However, Hissrich and the other writers had foreseen such an eventuality, and made sure to write scripts purely for the auditions, which have no connection to the actual storyline. Another recent leak suggested that the series will be filmed in or around the city of Budapest, in Hungary; seemingly corroborating Hissrich’s assurances that they would be filming in Eastern Europe.

The Witcher Netflix Series Writers Have Reached the Finale Episode

Hissrich has previously outlined who the core characters will be in the series; suggesting that the story will be an adaptation of one or more of Sapkowski’s earlier novels. Although they are both adaptations of the same source material, the CD Projekt Red games generally take place after the events of the novels. The character list includes names that will be familiar to fans of the games; Yennefer, Ciri, Triss Merigold, and Jaskier (the Polish name for Dandelion), for instance. However, it also includes names of characters who do not make appearances in the games, such as Milva, Vilgefortz, and Leo Bonhart.
